The Information Overload in Pulmonary Medicine

Staying current with medical literature is a fundamental duty of the modern physician. However, the sheer volume of publications across respiratory, critical care, and general medicine journals makes it nearly impossible for specialists to isolate the studies that directly impact their procedural practice.

The IPBronch website was engineered specifically to solve this problem for Interventional Pulmonologists. This platform acts as an automated filter, continuously scanning the global literature to surface only the most relevant diagnostic and therapeutic studies.

The Literature Search

Our system does not rely on simple keyword matching. Instead, it utilizes a sophisticated multi-step pipeline:

  • Continuous Searching: The platform interfaces directly with the NCBI PubMed E-utilities API and publisher RSS feeds to capture newly published abstracts in real-time.
  • Algorithmic Pre-Filtering: Obvious exclusions (such as purely cardiac or gastrointestinal surgical papers) are instantly dropped to maintain strict subspecialty focus.
  • Automated Synthesis: For articles relevant to IP, the system extracts the single most critical clinical takeaway and categorizes the study (e.g., Advanced Bronchoscopy, Pleural Disease, Airway Disorders).

Core Journal Sources

While the scanner evaluates literature from dozens of medical sources, it places special emphasis on journals critical to the field, ensuring a high review rate for publications such as:

  • Journal of Bronchology & Interventional Pulmonology
  • CHEST
  • Thorax
  • American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine (AJRCCM)
  • Respirology
  • The Lancet Respiratory Medicine

About the Creator

IP Bronch was developed by a Pulmonary and Critical Care Fellow with a specialized focus on Interventional Pulmonology and procedural research. Recognizing a gap between clinical workflows and modern digital tools, they combined their medical expertise with a background in software development—utilizing frameworks like Node.js and React—to build custom solutions for medical education. This platform represents that bridge: an aggregator built by a physician, for physicians, to keep the focus on what matters most—advancing patient care.
